Beans and rice are the pillars of a nutritious vegetarian, high protein meal & you don’t need to cook for hours (or do laundry). Backpacker’s Pantry Louisiana Red Beans & Rice happen to be vegan but you won’t miss the meat. Bring along some andouille (or any dry sausage) if you want to and make it even more authentically Cajun. As is, Backpacker’s Pantry Louisiana Red Beans & Rice is vegetarian, gluten free and perfectly spicy. All you need is one and one quarter cups of boiling water per one cup of dry mix, and 20 minutes hydration time. Take along on a hike for a quick, great tasting, hot lunch or serve alongside a freshly caught trout. The addition of cheese, sour cream or some fresh veggies makes an even more substantial meal. Students will appreciate the convenience of a tasty hot meal of beans & rice as will any backcountry adventurer or traveler. So versatile and easy to store it is a optimal for long-term food storage. Dairy free. Wheat free. Nut free. And best of all it is also non-GMO!

Ingredients
RED BEANS, PRECOOKED LONG GRAIN WHITE RICE, TOMATO, ONION, POTATO STARCH, SALT, NEW MEXICO CHILI PEPPER, SUGAR, CORN STARCH, GARLIC, CUMIN SEED, OREGANO, CAYENNE PEPPER.

Preparation & Storage
PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS:

PREPARING 1 CUP DRY MIX:
1.) Remove oxygen absorber from contents and discard,
2.) Thoroughly mix contents,
3.) Add 2 1/4 cup (540mL) of boiling water to 1 cup of dry ingredients,
4.) Stir well, fully submerging ingredients,
5.) Cover and let sit for 13 minutes
6.) Stir and serve

PREPARING THE ENTIRE CAN
1.) Remove oxygen absorber from contents and discard
2.) Thoroughly mix contents
3.) Add 22 1/2 cups (5.3L) of boiling water to dry ingredients
4.) Follow steps 4 through 6 above

PLEASE NOTE: Check the can before consumption to ensure there are no punctures. Rehydration time doubles every 5,000 feet of elevation gain. Our directions are set for 5,000 feet.

STORAGE & HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS: The following storage instructions will ensure the maximum shelf life of this Backpacker’s Pantry product. **DO NOT OPEN CAN UNTIL READY TO SERVE** Once the can is open, contents should be consumed within seven days. In between consumption, reclose the can with the plastic lid provided. Store at room temperature (70°F) or below. The lower the temperature of storage, the longer the shelf life will be. Temperatures of freezing or lower (˜32°F) should be avoided as it may affect the integrity of the can. Cans should be stored OFF the floor in a dry, well ventilated area.
