The mountains have changed my life - literally, emotionally, and physically.
I was a business professional and weekend warrior when I embarked on my very first big mountain expedition, back before I knew that there was such a thing as freeze-dried food or that high altitude is a different kind of hard than running road races.
That was almost ten years ago. Today, I am a van-living nomad; the mountains are my life (and freeze-dried food is what’s for dessert in the van - have you tried the Creme Brûlée?). After I first tasted the freedom of a life outdoors, I gradually came to the realization that an indoor career wasn’t bringing me joy - so I eventually quit corporate. Today I climb, run, and guide big mountains as my full-time gig, as the owner and head guide of Aurora Women’s Expeditions.
I know first-hand how transformational the mountains can be, but I also understand that they often come with a hefty price tag: gear, airfare, food, and on-the-ground logistics all easily add up to thousands of dollars for any international mountaineering expedition. That’s why I am tremendously excited to share the new AWE x Nite Ize Summit Scholarship.
The Summit Scholarship is a $5,000 grant that will enable one hand-picked woman to participate in the October 2019 AWE Nepal expedition to Everest Basecamp and Island Peak at minimal cost. The scholarship, which is powered by Nite Ize and supported by LOWA, covers the complete expedition fee ($3,190), a $500 stipend for use towards international flights to/from Kathmandu as well as top quality mountaineering footwear from LOWA Boots.
Intrigued? Find out more and submit your application at www.awexpeditions.org/summit-scholarship between April 4, and May 1, 2019. The scholarship recipient will be announced by May 15 2019.
See you in Nepal!
