    1. Wonderful! Review by Sydney

This product is absolutely amazing. It is a must have for every backpacking trip I go on. I keep at least 5 packets with my backpacking supplies at all times. I definitely recommend! (Posted on 12/7/2017)

    2. The perfect meal for a backpacking trip! Review by Joy

I carried several Backpacker's Pantry items with me on my 10-day backpacking trip around Mont Blanc. The Louisiana Red Beans and Rice packaged meal was perfect for me as I could cook it at lunch and eat it throughout the day and evening. I am celiac so it is great to find a dehydrated product that is gluten-free and delicious (and lightweight and affordable!) I highly recommend this meal along with the other gluten-free options from Backpacker's Pantry. I will be using this again on my thru-hike of the Colorado Trail this summer. (Posted on 5/20/2016)

    3. Not bad Review by River

It was a little spicy for me, but I expected it since I don't like really hot foods. For the average person I would say it has a good amount of spice. I made this at college in my dorm and after 13 minutes it was not quite cooked fully, and I am only at about 2000 feet. Still, the price is affordable and the food is pretty good. I did enjoy it and would eat it again. (Posted on 8/26/2015)

    4. A great meal for a low price Review by Faraz

A very tasty meal although a bit salty. But then all packaged meals are salty. We had this as dinner after a hard days walk. It tasted good. Spices were just right - not bland and not too spicy to give a heartburn. Granted we were tired, but this was a good meal. Enjoyed it throughly - and it is one of the least expensive meals. 5. Good Chow Review by ShoreviewSwede

Tastes great, but is a bit bland for "Louisiana" fare; we add some hot sauce to it, and then it is great. Let it sit for a few minutes longer than the package instructions say, and you'll be a happy camper. (Posted on 5/15/2015)

    6. Not bad Review by Tennessee Hiker

This was one of the better Backpacker Pantry products that we tried on a recent long weekend trip. All in all, it isn't that bad (better than MRE food), but it does require longer to cook than the directions indicate and is rather lackluster. I'd recommend this for breakfast, but I can't see it sustaining two active hikers as a lunch or dinner. It's cheap, lightweight, and easy to prepare - beyond that, don't set too high of expectations. We'll probably buy this again, but I would not rely on it to fill up two people under any circumstances. (Posted on 5/15/2015)

    7. Good Value Review by HK

Good value but needs to set up 5-10 min. longer than recommended, and is a little bland for my taste. These are minor criticism that are easily overcome. I usually pack a small spice dispenser containing a mixture of 2/3 Cayenne and 1/3 garlic powder. Small sprinkle solves the problem. (Posted on 5/15/2015)

    8. beans and rice Review by Lulu & Kekoa

This is my favorite freeze dried, but I love beans & rice. It's not spicy at all (if you want spicy add your own). Takes longer to "cook;" might let it sit 5-10 minutes extra. With 2-1/2 cups water, it's a bit soupy. Shouldn't give anyone heartburn unless they are already prone to that type of thing. Might be bland to anyone who thinks beans and rice are bland, but hey, it's beans & rice. It's very inexpensive (for freeze dried), packs in more calories than most freeze dried meals, has good amount of protein, and tasty. An ounce more weight than most Mountain House meals for two. 9. I liked it... Review by Blackdog51

I won't lay any claims to being a food aficionado and I can be a downright P-I-G after a long day (or a cold one) on the trail. But I like this. I found it a little soupy but I need all the hydration I can get. I will buy again -- price is right! (Posted on 5/15/2015)

    10. Tasty Stuff! Review by Baja Dreamer

Smelled great as soon as the water was added, and tasted just as good. Not worrying about the fat content though, I'd reduce the water a tiny bit and add some squeeze butter or margarine which would make it that much better. Not too spicy at all in my book. (Posted on 5/15/2015)

    11. Overall a good meal Review by K Souza

This meal had a great flavor and just enough spice. My main complaint is that it was far too soupy even after draining off some of the water. Allowing the meal to sit for the max recommended time it still was not fully rehydrated. I would recommend adding less water and letting it sit longer to rehydrate. I will defiantly buy this one again. (Posted on 5/15/2015)

    12. Awesome for rice lovers Review by JDiaz

      Love it... (Posted on 5/15/2015)

    13. YUMMY Review by Chellerbee

Great Flavor use less water than recommended unless you have more time to let it cook or its soupy. (Posted on 5/15/2015)

    14. good vegetarian meal Review by bkinbackpacker

I thought this was one of their better products. Thought it needed a bit more salt as I was hiking for hours and really needed some additional nutrition. Thought the onions add a nice touch. (Posted on 5/15/2015)

    15. Good hearty meal Review by peacesells63

This is one of the better tasting meals available, and it is great for adding a package of chicken to. Use 1/4 cup less water than the directions say to avoid red bean soup. Also makes a good burrito filling. (Posted on 5/15/2015)

    16. Good flavor, cook it longer (for the beans) Review by spyplane

We just spent a week out at Mueller SP, CO tent camping (IE no fridge), so we stocked up on a lot of these dehydrated camp food packets.

Mueller SP is situated at around 9,500 feet elevation so cook times are a bit longer. My wife and I loved the flavor of this meal. For this meal, we cooked it in accordance with the instructions due to our increased elevation.

Analysis: The flavor was really good but the texture was slightly off: some of the beans did not cook thoroughly. However, it won't stop us from buying this again in the future.

Great meal, by far one of the best in Backpacker's Pantry lineup! (Posted on 5/15/2015)

    17. Edible! Review by philoffline

Unlike most FD I've tried, this is pretty good. Basic, pleasantly spicy, and the portion seems right. Bring some tortillas to go with. (Posted on 5/15/2015)

    18. A little spicy, a little awesome Review by zeb

This has been a staple on wilderness trips for me for several years. Nice little bit of spice, but not overwhelming. (Posted on 5/15/2015)

    19. Quite Good Review by Nathan

This is a pretty good meal (even if just for one person) that is filling, has good ingredients, and good taste. It does take a bit longer to cook than what is instructed (I was at sea level), like Billy said, but this is a quality product at at a great price. That's value, son. (Posted on 9/30/2013)

    20. Great! Review by TSAjunky

Very good flavor for a vegetarian meal! I was very pleased with how filling and tasty it was, will use this flavor again! (Posted on 8/1/2013)

    21. delicious and filling Review by Billy Jean

We took this meal on a recent weekend backpacking trip. Re-hydration took a little longer than the package instructed, but once all of the water was absorbed it was pretty tasty. The packaging states that it’s intended to serve two, but I had no problem finishing it off by myself. For a vegetarian meal, I was very pleased with how filling it was. (Posted on 7/24/2013)
