The Lost Mountain Project is a collaborative, multi-pronged effort in which two world-renowned, female rock climbers (Majka Burhardt and Kate Rutherford) will lead a team of scientists, conservationists and filmmakers on a mission up the 2nd highest mountain in Mozambique Africa to document the area’s unique biodiversity with the ultimate goal of preserving it.

This team of adventurists will explore threatened habitats of Mt. Namuli, with an emphasis on discovering new species and expanding our knowledge of endangered species that are vital to the evolution of East Africa’s wildlife.  They will also work with the local community and a team of Mozambique-based conservationists to build a conservation plan that will ensure a thriving future for one of the world’s most precious biodiversity hotspots.

I bought one of these as a Christmas gift to my brother. It comes in a nice reusable mesh bag, and includes a postcard that tells you more about the project and where your donation is going. It's a cool concept, and I think my brother is really going to like it.

I’ve never climbed with Majka, but I’ve heard she is good. As the director of the new trans-displinary Museum of the White Mountains I am working with Sarah Garlick, as a curator and informal science educator, and she is an outstanding professional.
